Random.

Things I miss about living OUTSIDE of our beloved Kingdom:
  • FRESH AIR (maybe it's just me but no matter how cold the weather is I always feel there's a level of stuffiness in the air I inhale)
  • Early-morning jogs
  • Early mornings!
  • Driving (I SWEAR IT'S THERAPY!)
  • Bookstores with cute little cafes that are still open after the rest of the world has fallen asleep
  • Random strangers coming up to you and asking you where you're from.. and then the look on their face when they find out you're from KSA.. and the INTERESTING list of questions that comes along with it :p
  • Colourful autumns.. Snowy winters.. Rainy springs.. Warm (rather than excruciatingly HOT) summers..
  • Shopping.. And everything about it.. the atmosphere, the variety, the friendly salespeople that aren't flirty and/or freaky
  • Red mailboxes (SADLY non-existent here..hmm I wonder why)
  • Being able to just walk and walk and WALK your heart out whenever you're in the mood (outdoors of course)
  • Going months or even YEARS without getting ANY prank phone calls, perverted text messages, and/or photos of guys sent to you via multimedia messages (YES they do that now :S)
  • The park on a Saturday afternoon
  • Spending a Sunday at home .. just chillin..
  • Movie and IMAX theaters
  • Being snowed-in.. at home.. and waiting for the announcement on TV or the radio saying that school/work is cancelled for the day!
  • All my childhood memories :)

Things I'd miss if/WHEN (Inshallah!) I live outside of Saudi Arabia again:
  • The occasional family gathering
  • Ramadan (it's not nearly as spiritual when you spend it abroad)
  • The sound of the athaan (ie. "call for prayer")
  • Being a car-ride away from Makkah :)
  • My friends
  • Balsamico's olive appetizer thing :p
*sigh*

p.s: Just to make it clear.. I would never consider moving out of this place for good.. I only need a temporary recovery period from this ongoing (5 years and counting) culture shock.. After all, this IS home and I really do love it.. but everyone needs a break every once in a while, don't they? "Distance makes the heart grow fonder"!?

I know what you mean...
I love bookstored with little cafes, during my work experiance,I used hand out in the bookstore nearest to my job with my friends and/or my supervisors! Great memories.

The stranger thing happened to my family once in Hawaii :P He was this jewish guy who heard us talk in arabic, and he understood it, we had a little convo about where we were from, what sect of moslems we fall into, and he invited us to "Soofie" gathering...Yeah, don't ask, i didn't get that part then, neither do i get it now!

Season distinction...:P

Shopping is great everywhere! :P

You all know what I'm going to miss when I merely move away from Jeddah...CASPER & GAMBINI's! (N.B. If there is a do-gooder somewhere amongst the bloggers please, just one word...."FRANCHISE")

lol you can see the difference between the two lists :P

and i do agree on everything you have mentioned in both of them!

but two things i wanna say:
Hopefully in the future i'll open up a book store with the small coffee place... something that's dedicated for books and probably have a book club take place at the cafe!

the 2nd..Balsamico's appetizer olive thingy WOOOWWWW loool that's why i go to the place asasan :P

Randomly needful!!
My Childhood memories outside "the kingdom" are very precious, treasured in my thoughts,dreams.. heart,
a kind of memory i would literally NEVER forget or give upon..

One thing i agree the MOST on your "missings" which is:

."Being able to just walk and walk and WALK your heart out whenever you're in the mood (outdoors of course)"

Oh and those: "Bookstores with cute little cafes" i had an idea of opening one here in Jeddah! Ever since watched this movie called:
You've Got Mail
starting
Meg Rayan * i love her*
& Tom Hanks *such a brilliant actor"
the idea is under Pre-production
so
Any Competitor/Collaborators !!;P

dr.lost- yeah i could so go somewhere snowy right now.. jeddah suddenly got all humid on us :S

bassem- i've always wanted to open a cute little bookstore here too! lol at one point i actually had a name picked out..

LOUD- yeah i know i'd miss it here.. but i really believe that a little break would do us ALL some good lol

Vin- :D business partners?! or "collaborator" as you call it.. you know you don't want me as a competitor :P + you'd be stuck with me forever! and we could steal bassem's idea and make a weekly book club :D
